The Ticking Time Bomb That Starts As Soon As You Start Your Business….

I can remember like it was yesterday, I joined my very first home business. Tick Tock Tick Tock Tick Tock…. Wow it was great and I was definitely pumped up on the inside like Arnold Schwarzenegger was pumped up on the outside…back in his Conan days! Haha yea I spelled Schwarzenegger right on the first attempt…ok ok maybe I had to replace the last e because I used an a the first time…anyway who cares..I think you get the point.

My goodness I was so excited…you would have honestly thought that Publishers Clearing House had knocked on my door and handed me one of those checks that look like you could use them to go down a water slide on. Mmm Hmm I was the man!

And Then It Hit Me….

Fast forward about 3 -4 weeks later after going to meetings we were holding to recruit new people in the business…I guess I had a light bulb moment. It hit me…kinda like this..”HEY GENIUS…that shirt and tie looks real good…what a great smile you have…you certainly seem to be playing the role but YOU AREN’T MAKING ANY MONEY!!!! Sure..you are at every meeting..but you never bring anyone. What are you doing on a daily basis to actively promote your business???

After reasoning with myself, I came to the conclusion that only having my sweet loving aunt on the books was not going to get Scottie to beam me up to an exotic beach so I can sip mai tai’s all day with an every growing fat bank account.

My Confession…

I did not really want to go this direction… but I want to be completely transparent with you on my experience.(DISCLAIMER: my actions were very dumb in my opinion(now looking back)…so even as I attempt to inform you of what to do…be careful not to follow the things that you shouldn’t do).

I’m going to make this quick…so here we go..

My First Time To Come In Contact With An Endangered Species

(a newbies dream)

I was actually sponsored by a man who was essentially kicking butt in this particular business. We met one day at one of those coffee shops at your local Barnes & Nobles. He saw something in me and instead of me investing anything…he paid it forward…and took it upon himself to actually “sponsor” me into the business. We got together constantly, he taught me everything he was doing that was building a high 6 figure business at the time for him and his family.

He even would sponsor people and put them in my downline instead of keeping them for himself. I want to make it very clear….I never asked him for anything…he was doing this all himself. Crazy thing was…I was beginning to hit a point that I was going to begin receiving some income. The only thing I had to do was simply get two more customers…THAT’S IT…and I was qualified..I was even going to be promoted within the company.

So now you should understand my first mentor/sponsor was like an endangered species when it comes to network marketing..mlm..home business however you want to label it. Looking back I was the cool kid who had everything going for himself but simply was not interested in doing anything with any of it.

I did not follow his instruction. Now don’t get me wrong, what I learned from him over 10 years ago I now implement into my business. Haha..I had to throw that in to make myself feel better about writing this. Ok so back to my bizarre behavior.

Lets Not Do It And Just Say I Did….

Again, I did not follow his instructions as I should have. I was too busy having “fun” ..I guess that’s what I thought it was back then. I spent most of my time with people that either had no clue about what I was really doing or just the type of people that are only interested in themselves…so I mostly hung out and wasted time instead of working on my business. I eventually stopped communicating often with my mentor and now 1 year had passed by.

In that one year…times changed. All of a sudden I was completely broke I was desperate. I had created a lifestyle of having a business without working my business. It was a dark time. Well actually it was a time of growth because I knew I had dropped the ball. I contacted the company to see if there was anything I could do to regain my team…that had been growing as I ignored it.

Time Was Up…

Long story short…that one last customer I decided not to bring on for whatever reason had forfeited my business out of my hands. It was terrible, I had let my service laps about 8 months in…… and totally gave up my business after a grace period had passed that I didn’t take time to acknowledge…tick tock tick tock…it was all gone. The clock had stopped…it was like listening to a heart beat on a ECG(EKG) that just redlined.

I said all that..to say this….

From My Heart To Your Heart…

If you never follow instruction…if you never implement what you are told how can you ever get to where you want to go? You can never be determined to do anything if you don’t have enough belief on the inside to take action. You will never take action on something you truly don’t believe in or respect…and you will never be determined to do anything you don’t commit to doing or believe in.

Usually we only commit to things we believe in…or at least we should(you might want to read that statement a few times).

Ignoring your business and never taking consistent action will leave you without a business…it will destroy your business even if someone else seemingly gives you one along with all the tools and resources to succeed.

What a relief to know at any given moment we can decide to make changes for the better!
